New Flood Rescue Kit for Firefighters

Water Rescue FIREFIGHTERS who helped with the rescue effort during last summer's floods have been showing off £40,000 worth of new equipment. Officers have been kitted out with the specialist water rescue gear to help their response to situations like last July.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service decided to invest in the equipment to make sure the county is ready to deal with any further extreme weather.

The new kit includes specialist wet weather clothing including; 40 drysuits, 70 thermal undersuits, 70 water rescue helmets and 40 pairs of canyoneering boots.

The rest of the gear is made up of rescue equipment including 40 personal floatation devices, a mud rescue lance, MFC Survival air inflation hose kits, two MFC Survival inflatable Airtrack rescue paths, and an MFC Survival inflatable rapid response shelter.

All the new equipment has been funded by Gloucestershire County Council and has cost almost £40,000.  Rescue Sled

Councillor Will Windsor-Clive, cabinet member for community safety, said having the new gear would be a major boost for Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service

He said: “The investment in this equipment will mean that firefighters are better equipped to deal with water emergencies, such as they faced in July last year. Coun Windsor-Clive added the aim of the purchases were to keep the county safe. He said “Along with the hovercrafts which we hope will be delivered later this year, they will improve the capabilities of the fire service to respond to incidents, while keeping themselves and members of the public safe.”
